In 1951 David and Jane Herlihy purchased a 10-acre avocado grove in La Habra Heights, California. They were attracted to this rural Los Angeles county town as an ideal place to raise their family. Children Ann and Ted enjoyed horseback riding, roaming the hills, and occasionally supervising the avocado harvest! In the 1960's the family purchased land in Fallbrook, North San Diego County, California and upscaled the avocado business to include about 25 acres of miscellaneous avocado varieties.
Ted, now married, sold his manufacturing business and moved to the big farm with his wife Marilyn and young daughters Ann and Katie. Mom and Dad Herlihy worked out a deal for the young family to take over the farm while they enjoyed their retirement years, and the girls carried on the family tradition of climbing trees and riding horses.

A new era was dawning. As water prices soared, the avocado groves were converted to flower fields. Large blocks of Myrtle, Leptospermum, Waxflower, Boronia and other filler flowers were planted transforming the farm into a beautiful patchwork of pinks, greens, whites and fuchsia. Today, about 30 acres of cut flowers are intensely farmed at Herlihy Farms. Flowers from Herlihy Farms have been featured in many publications, including Sunset and Better Homes and Gardens . Call us for a visit. The best time to see the farm in full bloom is between Easter and Mothers' Day. Marilyn may just have one of her famous desserts in the oven. And the teapot is always hot.
